Psalms 24:1-2 The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the waters.
The Ten Virgins
When Jesus Christ talked to the people, he used short stories called parables. Jesus was trying to help people to understand in concrete terms something that seemed to be so abstract to them. In one of these parables, Jesus spoke of the need to prepare for the second coming.
In Matthew 25:1-13, Jesus compared God’s people to ten virgins, whom were to prepare themselves for their bridegroom. The five wise virgins, prepared their oil lamps with oil, and when the bridgegroom arrived they were prepared to meet him. But the five foolish virgins had no oil for their lamps, and when the bridegroom came the virgins were not prepared, and arrived too late to be taken by the bridegroom and were shut out.
In this parable, Christ Jesus is the bridegroom. Jesus tried to explain that we need to be ready for the second coming of Christ Jesus, and that no one would know the day or hour that Christ Jesus would return.
The lamps would represent salvation. The oil for the lamps would represent prayer and repentance. Prayer and repentance help our light for God to shine brightly. Without prayer, and repentance, our light for God grows rather dim. Our attitude also becomes dark, and we are not a good representation for God. Isaiah 62:1 says,1 For Zion's sake will I not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest, until the righteousness thereof go forth as brightness, and the salvation thereof as a lamp that burneth.
Some people believe that they will postpone prayer, repentance, righteousness, and even salvation. Some people believe that they will have time to do it later, but Christ Jesus said that none of us knows when the second coming of Christ Jesus will be. Christ Jesus tells us that if we wait until after the second coming of Christ Jesus, it will be too late. The actual passage follows: Matthew 25:1-13
1Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. 2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. 3 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: 4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. 5 While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. 6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. 7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. 8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. 9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. 10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. 11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. 12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. 13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.
None of us wants to be shut out of the kingdom of God. Let us not wait until it is too late.
Dear Christ Jesus, I pray that you forgive me of my sins. I pray that you help me fully repent of my sins. I pray dear Jesus, that you cleanse my heart of all unrighteousness. I pray that you help me to maintain righteousness, and protect me from temptation. I am grateful dear Jesus for second chances, and I ask that you make room for me in the kingdom of heavens. I am grateful dear Jesus that you act on my behalf. In the name of Christ Jesus I pray. Amen.
