King Saul believed that David was acting against him, even though he was not. David was wrongly accused and called upon God.
Psalms 35:23-24
22 This thou hast seen, O LORD: keep not silence: O Lord, be not far from me. 23 Stir up thyself, and awake to my judgment, even unto my cause, my God and my Lord. 24 Judge me, O LORD my God, according to thy righteousness; and let them not rejoice over me.
Have you ever felt what David was feeling? David was saying, “Lord, you have seen how they treat me? Lord, be here and act on my behalf. See how they have judged me, my God and my Lord. Judge me O Lord and my God, and see my righteousness, and defend me.” Have you ever asked God to defend you? In order for God to be justified to act on our behalf, we have to live in righteousness. God is not just in defending the unrighteous.
Ezekiel 18:30
Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord GOD. Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.
Here we see that God is judge. We are not supposed to judge others, or act against them. We are supposed to take all our cares to God, and then let God be judge, and let God handle the situation for us. In the New Testament, we even see that there are consequences for judging others. The following verses are usually paraphrased to mean, as you have judged others, so you also will be judged.
Matthew 7:1-2
1 Judge not, that ye be not judged. 2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
Luke 6:37
Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:
When God judges me, I want God to see my righteousness, and judge me with leniency. I pray that God will always be justified in doing so. As long as I walk in righteousness, God will always be justified in acting on my behalf. Therefore, I choose to believe that all are capable of repentance, and I ask God to be judge, and God can judge their deeds and their repentance.
