Deliverance
Deliverance refers to the removal of bad spirits from a persons body. There are several reasons that someone might need deliverance. Some people acquire spirits through their sinful behavior. Others are sent spirits by satanists, witches, and other like-minded people who believe that they can influence or control people with spirits. Some people just like to be mean, or they intend to hinder that person.
Knowing Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior gives you strength and power in spiritual warfare, and also protects you from demonic possession. Knowing Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, and a righteous lifestyle could possibly protect you from every needing deliverance in the first place.
If you are living a righteous lifestyle, it is unlikely that you would acquire spirits through sin. If you have been sinful, and now are repentant, then a strong relationship with Jesus Christ, and a righteous lifestyle, along with daily Bible reading many times will encourage spirits to leave on their own. Many times repentance will also encourage bad spirits to leave.
Many times spirits that have been sent to people will not enter that body if the person is righteous. Many times spirits that have been sent by others will not enter someone that is filled with the Holy Spirit. By knowing Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, I can be filled with the Holy Spirit and it will prevent bad spirits from entering my body. Through prayer, and meditation on God, I can be more filled with the Holy Spirit. Being filled with the Holy Spirit is a spiritual defense in itself.
Once you know Jesus, and have changed your life with repentance, and prayer, and established a solid relationship with God, you can begin deliverance but not before. This is not something you can accomplish in a week. Remember, you did not get where you are right now over night. This process is going to take time, but know it will get easier as you go along, and over time you will have to cast out fewer, and fewer bad spirits.
When you pray repentance, pray something similar to the following:
Almighty God, please forgive me of the sin of __________. In the name of Jesus Christ, I repent of this sin, and I ask that You renew my spirit and my mind with Your spirit, and change me forever. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
Pray this prayer for each sin, out loud if possible. And truly try to change. If you feel yourself slipping into your old habits, ask God for strength. Even pray, and ask God to protect you from temptation. It really works!
